Natasha Williams
Trainee Accountant
Started with Hyne in Feb 2003 after completing my first year of university at USQ Hervey Bay campus.
I was hired as a Trainee Accountant in the Finance Division which lead to me studying my degree (Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Major, HR Minor) externally with financial assistance from the company. In March 2005, I accepted the position of Trainee Wholesale Accountant/Inventory Control Officer, a position that is based in Brisbane, however the company allowed me to work from Maryborough until June 2005, when I was able to relocate to Brisbane.
A few months later, the inventory part of the position was assigned to another employee to allow me to focus more on the Wholesale accounting role.
I will be finishing my degree in June this year and hoping to start studying my CPA which I’m sure the company will encourage.
Working full-time while studying externally definitely requires discipline and commitment, but has provided me with a better understanding of how what I’m learning actually relates to the real world. You don’t get that in a classroom. Hyne have always been very supportive of my study and career aspirations. When I wanted to move to Brisbane, and a position came up, everyone was very supportive and made sure the transition was as smooth as possible. One of the best things about Hyne is that there are opportunities to learn different areas of the business. I’ve gained a lot of varied experience from working at Head Office, doing Financial Accounting work then moving to Brisbane and working in the Wholesale division with a more Management accounting focus while gaining a better understanding of how a branch runs.
I’m going on 5 years with the company and I hope the next couple of years bring lots of challenges. Eventually I am hoping to travel and work overseas and I feel my career with Hyne has provided me with the experience and confidence necessary to achieve this.
