Whole-of-log Utilisation
Maximising the potiental of each log
Locked up in each of the logs we process are a mix of products. The products that we produce service a variety of industries including construction, hordiculture, logistics and packaging.
Around half of each log is processed into structural framing, with the remainder supplied to a range of industries that rely on wood fibre.
Our ‘Whole-of-Log’ strategy aims to enable the Hyne Group and our customers to participate more broadly across the value chain—securing reliable and commercial pathways for all parts of the log, while supporting growth, supply stability and assurance for our customers.
This strategy is reflected in the formation of the divisions that make up the Hyne Group.

Softwood timber
A log will typically yield 40-50% structural timber. This is the fibre that meets the structural properties to become framing, or lamellas used in engineered glue-laminated timber beams.
The cutting plan is determined by advanced AI to ensure we cut thelog to achieve both grade yield and a product mix that’s right forthe market. Decisions are made quickly to keep the process moving at speed, supported by consistent scanning throughout, including full geometric rotation scanning, machine vision scanning, acoustic grading and X-ray scanning. This data ensure the right wood fibre finds its way into the right products.

Garden care
Rocky Point reprocesses the bark stripped from logs at Hyne mills, transforming it into mulch and refining it into growing media. These products help make success easier for home gardeners and those who make their livelihood working the land and growing things.
Timber that doesn’t meet the standard for strucutral use can be cut to produce Hyne Landscape Timber for use in non-structural garden walls, edging or fencing.

Pallets & packaging
Some of the log will be processed into timber pallets and crates. Timber pallets are renewable, refurbishable, and made right here in Australia.
With access to wood fibre from Hyne’s integrated mills, Hyne Pallets provides a secure and reliable supply of high-quality pallets and packaging, helping customers de-risk their operations.
Hyne Pallets is a national network of coordinated manufacturers backed by Hyne sawmilling, helping shield customers from the price and supply volatility of third-party suppliers.
