F5 Structural Timber

F5 is Hyne Timber’s premium base grade structural timber. Produced and dried to a higher standard than that of other’s F5 timber, it is a proven performer with constrained bow, spring, and twist limits. In fact, with a moisture content of approximately 15%, Hyne’s premium F5 timber far surpasses the 21% moisture content set by the Australian Standards for MGP10+ products. At 15%, the timber is closer to the Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC) than other grades, ensuring increased straightness and stability.

In addition to being treated to prevent termite attack, using F5 stress graded pine in construction, is a practical and cost-effective framing solution for applications, including studs, noggins, battens, and webs.

Hyne Timber’s F5 products comply with the Australian Standard for stress grading (AS/NZS 1748.1:2011) and have properties in accordance with the timber design standard (AS 1720.1:2010). Hyne termite treatments are independently audited and CodeMark certified.

Applications

Timber roof truss and wall frame diagrams

Hyne Timber’s premium F5 stress graded pine is a practical and cost-effective framing solution for the following applications:

  • Studs
  • Noggins
  • Battens
  • Webs
  • Bottom Plate

In fact, assuming F5 is used for applications in non-loadbearing walls, it could replace as much as 60% to 70% of the framing required.

By substituting F5 in applications where builders might otherwise use MGP10+ could result in a saving of up to ~15% on the cost of framing material.

Benefits

High-quality construction:

F5 graded structural timber is produced, designed, and tested to meet strict standards of strength, durability, and safety. Our board selection and drying process ensures that our premium F5 timber not only outperforms standard F5 timber, but it is also more stable.

Cost-effectiveness:

F5 graded structural timber is a cost-effective option compared to other building materials. Using F5 timber in builds, especially in prefabricated frames, can provide significant cost savings.

Strength and durability:

Our F5 is a premium base grade structural timber. The lower moisture content and refined board selection process ensures for a more stable and consistent product. Designed and tested to withstand heavy loads and stresses, F5 ensures a sturdy and durable house frame that can last for many years.

Sustainability:

As timber is a renewable resource, using F5 graded structural timber in a house frame can promote sustainable building practices. Additionally, timber has a low carbon footprint compared to other building materials, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
